The Poetry Café
We are back for a night of performance poetry in partnership with UN Women UK‘s Safe Spaces Now initiative. Our finest poets have come together to stand up to sexual harassment in all its forms. Alongside our live event at The Poetry Society, performing poets will be published in an anthology, a free copy of which will be included in the ticket price, with additional copies available for £5. All proceeds will go to Safe Spaces Now.
Poets Versus is a literary platform for emerging and established poets tackling social injustice and promoting equality. Each round will address a specific social issue: gender inequality, racism, ableism, mental health stigma, transphobia, xenophobia, poverty, animal cruelty, homophobia, to name a few.
In 2020, UN Women UK is launching Safe Spaces Now, the first ever programme of its kind that brings together formal and informal, new and existing data, and stories around harassment and abuse. We are bringing government, activists and communities together to create safer public spaces for womxn and girls of all genders, sexualities, ethnicities and abilities. Only with the power of our collective voice, including those of Poet Versus, can we truly create Safe Spaces Now. You can get involved with the project and share your voice by following @UNWomenUK on social media, or getting in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org.
